Probably one of a number of diaries, this one [the Boteler Diary at bottom left of the linked page] in the possession of Lyme Regis Museum was started by Henry Boteler RN after his arrival in Lyme to take up a position as Coastguard. Both his and later his young wife's entries give a personal account detailing the daily life, family, social activities, health, food, the weather as well as touching on political issues such as the French "people quarrelling with their king."
