Newspapers are an important source of information for the researcher in local history covering news, articles, advertisements, and correspondence. The on-the-spot and dated reporting from the news journals in the past often allows the researcher to cut out the ‘middle man’ historian..
William J Emmett's Newspaper Scrapbooks
William John Emmett (1876-1963) kept newspaper cuttings about his activities as Mayor of Lyme Regis 1937-1945 that now provide an excellent record of municipal life at the time. His granddaughters have agreed that this digital copy may now be placed on this website – they are sure that would have pleased their grandfather.
The newspaper cuttings are divided into 5 books, labelled as:

Van H Allen's Newspaper Scrapbooks
Van Hobman Allen (1893-1953) was well-known from the 1920s to 1950s as a business man and journalist (see this article). He compiled scrapbooks of his published writings, many of which have been transcribed here verbatim.

Bill Reed's Newspaper Scrapbooks
Bill Reed MBE died in 2015 after a career as shop manger in Lyme and local fundraiser. The Research Team were given access by his family to his scrapbooks covering mainly the period 1979-1991, with a few cuttings (mainly adverts) from 1950.
